Crosswalk Violation Case Dismissed, March 2025

Client hired Leslie for help with a crosswalk violation that allegedly occurred in Downtown Athens. Leslie immediately requested all downtown camera video footage from the area where the State claimed the violation occurred–a total of about 8 hours of video.

Leslie reviewed the video and discovered that due to a recent pedestrian death, officers set up a “sting” operation at local crosswalks. Leslie was able to show that at the time Client allegedly committed the violation, that not only had Client complied with the law, but the officer who stopped him actually committed a crosswalk violation while he was in the process of stopping Client to give him the citation!

To demonstrate to the State the issues with the case, Leslie prepared a short PowerPoint presentation marked with circles and arrows and a brief description of each–a la “Alice’s Restaurant.” After review of the presentation, the State properly dismissed the case.
