Probation Sentence for Client Who Went Pro Se at Trial–October 2026

A Client charged with criminal damage to property in the second degree, a charge that carries a maximum penalty of 5 years in prison chose to go pro se–without an attorney–at trial. Unfortunately, the jury convicted Client after just a few minutes of deliberations.

Client hired Leslie for representation at sentencing, which was set a few weeks after the trial ended.

Leslie investigated and completed an entire mitigation package on Client’s case, meeting with family members and traveling out-of-state to glean information helpful to Client at sentencing.

After a hearing that lasted a couple of hours, Leslie was able to secure a probation sentence for Client.

In addition, one of the main reasons Client went to trial was over the question of damages. Leslie was able to negotiate a settlement on the damages that Client could reasonably pay.

The best result is always seeing a Client go home. The result in this case was particularly sweet because it allowed Client to return home to family. It also came with a note of thanks from one of Client’s loved ones.
