Client was charged with felony theft by shoplifting. Officers discovered him driving a car away from a retail store. Client never went into the store, but drove two other family members there. The two family members entered the store and shoplifted various items.
When the family members exited the store with the items, they got in Client’s car, and Client drove off. When cops stopped the car, police discovered all of the items taken in the vehicle. One of Client’s family members admitted taking items, and told police Client had nothing to do with the theft. The family member also told him that the Client said he shouldn’t have taken anything. Police didn’t believe the family member.
Police believed Client was involved because of the items found in the vehicle and because he was driving the car away from the store. When Leslie accepted the case for representation, the Client had been in jail for more than three months because of an immigration hold.
After a complete investigation into and review of the case, Leslie convinced the State to drop the charge against the Client.
